When you are writing several articles a week, it isn’t always easy to come up with new ideas. From time to time, writers need inspiration to get those creative juices flowing again.
Whether you’re suffering from writer’s block or what you believe is a lack of material, sometimes a gold mine of ideas can be found right under your nose.
Read on for five places to find new article ideas that can spark your interest again and again.
Write About the News
Many great article ideas begin with the news, either by reading the newspaper or turning on a news program. Share your political opinions or your frustrations, and others are certain to relate (and debate).
You can also write about entertainment news. There seems to always be something going on in Hollywood, so join the blog masses and give your own spin on the latest celebrity events.
If you’d like to be more original, however, you can try writing about things happening in your own area. A great bonus for writing about local news is that the majority of other writers online probably haven’t heard about it, which can give you an edge in taking the article where you would like it to go.
Write About Online Talk
If you’ve never browsed through forums for new writing ideas, you might be surprised by what you’re missing. People talk about what is taking place right now. Try looking through any popular help forums or comment sections of your favorite websites.
If you like to write how-to articles, consider sites like Yahoo! Answers (Answers.Yahoo.com) or search through Ask.com’s Answers page (Answers.Ask.com) to learn what people are currently wanting to know.
Browse through the questions for one you can answer, then do so by way of your new article.
Check out Google Trends or Twitter’s Trending Topics for new ideas as well. Facebook would be another great one to try. Any place where people are talking will have many, many subjects to choose from.
It might not always be worth writing about, but you never know when you will stumble across a true writing gem.
Write About Special Causes
One good way to spread the word about a special cause or charity is to write an article about it. There are truly great organizations out there that others may not know about. You could be the one to spread the news.
Or maybe it isn’t so organized. It could simply be something that has been on your mind, such as hopes or concerns for your life, your family, or your community in general. Share your story with the world. You never know how many people could be touched by it.
As long as it is sincere and from the heart, it could be a nice article idea that helps others in the process.
Write About Things at Home
When you look around your home, it’s possible that you see just the same old boring stuff as always. When you look at it from a writer’s perspective, on the other hand, there is a world of writing ideas all around you.
- Kids fighting at the dinner table? Consider an article that gives advice about how to ease adolescent tempers.
- Sink stopped up again? Tell others how you’ve learned to fix it.
- Are you particularly pleased with the way you have arranged your furniture? Maybe you can help readers to find their own style.
The list goes on and on. Be willing to look at your home life a little differently and write about the things that you know, and the ideas will come rolling in.
Write About Other Stuff
Other article ideas would be to create Top 10, Top 20, 50, or 100 lists, which are handy for anyone looking for the “best of” most products and/or services. Share a recipe or write a music review about your favorite CD. Write a product review about your cell phone or your computer. Anything along those lines would work for a new article.
You could also consider re-writing an old article. Or interview someone. Maybe your grandmother or someone in your family has lots of old stories to share. Write an article from that perspective.
The key for writers is to keep your mind open to writing about a variety of topics in a variety of areas. When you change your way of viewing things, it has the potential to change your writing style forever.
Anything you can imagine, you can write it.
